Middlesbrough are considering their next move after Columbus Crew rejected their first offer for USA international Max Arfsten.

Boro submitted an official offer for the 24-year-old last week, which was believed to have been worth around £2.25 million. As well as turning down Boro’s offer, the MLS side have made clear that they do not wish to sell the left wing-back this summer.

Arfsten is understood to be Boro’s top target to fill the wing-back role for the upcoming season, having been followed closely by Boro for well over a year now. Also capable of playing as a forward but identified primarily to fill the left sided wing-back role of Rob Edwards’ side, Arfsten has been a top creative outlet in the last two seasons of the MLS.
