ASHEVILLE - For the first time in over 20 years, zoning regulations in the Beaverdam Township have changed. Buncombe County commissioners unanimously approved a zoning ordinance for the community during its Aug. 5 meeting, allowing property owners to build more than one home per lot, quashing the last remnants of mandatory single-family zoning in unincorporated Buncombe County.

In making their decision, local officials pointed to policy contributing to high housing costs and a low inventory of homes for sale.
