GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) - In classrooms across Gallia County, a grant of more than $1 million is giving educators assistance in strengthening literacy.

Gallia County is one of 33 school districts in Ohio to receive part of a grant from the Department of Education.

The money is being used to support literacy instruction, especially in those early years when reading habits begin to take root.

“Start behind stay behind theory--we’re trying to catch them early,” Philip Koun, Superintendent of the Gallia County Local School District, said. “So, that we can have them enter even kindergarten on track and we want to keep them on track based upon the things that we’ve implemented throughout the district.”
