DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -- School is almost back in session, meaning drivers will need to be more cognizant of the yellow buses and the passengers inside, as well as kids walking to and from school or the bus stop.

During a media event Thursday, the Dayton Police Department reiterated the rules regarding how cars should interact with school buses, as well as other rules that come into play this time of year.

According to DPD, they and surrounding departments have seen an increase in the number of drivers illegally passing school buses that are stopped to drop off kids over the last several years.

“I tell people all the time, some schools don't have the flashing signals or the flashing indicators, or maybe you come off of a side street and you don't see those flashing indicators,” said Sgt.
