BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Students at Ramsay High School were welcomed back on their first day of school Thursday by members of the Alpha Phi chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

"Schooling goes beyond the classroom," said Dr. Carolyn Russell-Walker, principal of Ramsay High School. "And most students, all they feel like they have is parents, their school administrators and most of all their teachers and their friends. But when they see organizations such as Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, it empowers them to dream more, to aspire and dig deeper to learn what these organizations are about and how they benefit education."

The back-to-school welcome is part of the Alpha Phi chapter's commitment to educational uplift and youth mentorship in the Birmingham area.
