SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Missouri’s biggest fair is underway, but its opening is kicking off more than just the annual state fair.

Gov. Mike Kehoe declared on Thursday the official kick-off of Show Me 250, Missouri’s year-long celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. From now until August 17, you can go to the state fair to experience drone shows, selfie stops, and more for Show Me 250.

This is just the beginning of Missouri’s celebrations, Kehoe said, there are many more events all across the state planned for the next year to celebrate the country’s birthday.

“Think of this country being 250 years old,” Gov. Kehoe said. “It’s almost unbelievable that we’ve had democracy that long right here in the continental U.S.”
