Renowned Doctor found dead in suspicious apartment fire

Minutes before 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, emergency services received reports of a fire breaking out at an apartment complex on Obregón Avenue, between D and E streets, in the Second Section neighborhood. Firefighters from Station 1 responded swiftly and, upon arriving at the scene, discovered the lifeless body of a man at the entrance to Apartment 10 on the second floor.

After extinguishing the flames, agents from the State Investigation Agency’s Violent Homicide Unit and forensic personnel were called in. The victim was identified as Jorge Zúñiga, 76, a prominent nephrologist in the region. Authorities confirmed that Zúñiga had sustained multiple stab wounds and severe third-degree burns.
