CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - With schools either starting or very close to it across the Carolinas, many in the community have answered a call to action to help students in need of the basics for success.
Hundreds of volunteers packed the Charlotte Convention Center on Thursday, Aug. 7 to help fill backpacks for school kids with the essentials they will need on their first day.
“We’ll be giving away 52,455 backpacks,” an organizer told the crowd.
It was a Herculean task to say the least. With the start of the school year now here, many families around the area have found themselves coming up short when it comes to giving their kids the essential school supplies.
