Much of Michigan could glimpse the northern lights Aug. 8 and 9, according to NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) forecast.

The SWPC's view line shows up to 14 states could see the northern lights, or aurora borealis, Friday night, Aug. 8, the SWPC's dashboard map shows. In Michigan, "view lines" Michiganders as far south as Grand Rapids, Lansing and Port Huron may be able to catch a see the shimmering lights in the night sky to the north, NOAA says. The lights could be overhead for people in the Upper Peninsula.

Local National Weather Service offices forecast rain and clouds in the second half of the night, so you may have a chance to see the auroras in the early evening hours.
