CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – At least one person and a dog were exposed to a rabid raccoon recently discovered in a Charleston County neighborhood.

State health officials said the raccoon, found near Dogwood Road and Becky Road, was submitted to the South Carolina Department of Public Health’s lab for testing on Aug. 5 and was confirmed to have rabies the next day.

One person was exposed and has been referred to their health care provider. One dog was exposed and will be quarantined as required in the South Carolina Rabies Control Act.
