MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Plans are in motion for transforming the Downtown Memphis and Shelby Farms area.

According to the Shelby County Commission, the new building plan will be located at Firestone Avenue and Morehead Street. This location provides convenient access to the I-40 and Downtown Memphis.

The proposed 71-acre project includes development plans for a new county detention facility, courtrooms, a mental health facility, etc.

The new correctional detention facility will only be six minutes from 201 Poplar and will be away from the Shelby Farms area so that land can be freed for an urban park, according to the Shelby County Commissioners.

The proposed expansion will allow for potentially adding new components for the Justice Center.
