SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A man was assaulted just outside of downtown Sioux Falls early Thursday morning.

The victim, a 32-year-old Sioux Falls resident, was found on the sidewalk with blood coming out of his ear.

Police responded initially as a medical call.

The victim was unable to give details to the police, but witnesses believed the man had been assaulted.

The suspect is Gino Gehl, 21, of Sioux Falls.

Security footage showed that at 3:17 a.m., Gehl hit the victim once. The victim collapsed and possibly hit their head on the curb.

Footage also showed Gehl going through the victim’s pockets and stealing his bag.

Gehl was arrested for robbery, aggravated assault, and false impersonation. He is also a parole defector.
