MCBEE, S.C. — A South Carolina woman and a police officer are facing charges after allegedly hindering the investigation into the possible sexual assault of a child.
Warrant affidavits allege that, on Oct. 14, 2024, Janece Curtiss took a child to a medical facility due to bleeding. There, the affidavit claims a physician suggested that the child's injuries could have been caused by sexual abuse. The medical staff then requested assistance from the McBee Police Department and the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS). Curtiss allegedly told medical staff that the child got the injuries after falling into a refrigerator while home alone.
