The summer rains may mean a bumper crop come harvest, but for many Nebraska farmers, it could still be a struggle to break even.
"How do we get farmers from this side of the canyon to the other side of the canyon without going through significant loss?" Nebraska Farm Bureau Mark McHargue said. "Right now, it looks like there probably will be people that probably won't make it, quite frankly."
The Donald Trump administration's sweeping slate of new tariffs, which took effect on Thursday, drive up already high input costs, McHargue said. This also comes is a season of flagging grain commodity prices.
"And we have yet to have the ability to recapture any of that through any type of trade agreement that has been talked about or mentioned because there's a lag," McHargue sai
