AROUND THE OZARKS, Mo. (KY3) - School buses will be back on the roads with students in the seats in about two weeks, which can impact daily commuters.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Sgt. Eddie Young said drivers need to be more vigilant at this time of year because they haven’t dealt with buses all summer.

According to Missouri State Law, drivers must stop when buses are picking up and dropping off students.

“Last year, we had just a little over 800 bus crashes, and that resulted in seven fatalities and over 300 injuries,” Young said.

This year, state troopers hope those numbers drop to zero. They are reminding drivers that state law requires drivers to slow down when a bus turns its yellow lights on - and they must stop when a bus extends its stop sign.
