SPARTANBURG, S.C. —
A multi-story government complex that will eventually house the Spartanburg city and county offices and council meetings has cleared one of its final hurdles before construction.
This week, the city of Spartanburg's design review board gave final approval to the upcoming estimated $80 million complex, set to be built on Broad and Church streets.
"It's something that we've been anticipating here, and we know the community is excited to see it going, too," city spokesperson Christopher George said. "It's a major part of the downtown projects that are happening in that area."
The complex is paid for through a one percent sales tax that was approved by Spartanburg County voters in 2017. George said the city is targeting the month of October for a groundbreaking.
