MADISON (WKOW) -- In just a few hours, you may want to step outside and look up at the sky.

August's full moon, also known as the Sturgeon Moon, will reach its peak around 2:55 a.m. Saturday, according to EarthSky .

The name "Sturgeon Moon" comes from the time of year when sturgeon fish are most readily caught.

In the Northern Great Plains, it is also called the "Black Cherries Moon" to mark when cherries begin to ripen.
