GALVESTON, Texas — Galveston has officially been recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records , but it's not for the prettiest sunset.
Instead, it's about the length of a sidewalk.
The Galveston Seawall has the longest contiguous sidewalk in the United States.
The sidewalk stretches 7.3 miles along the Texas Gulf Coast.
Next month, Visit Galveston is calling for about 8,000 people to line the seawall in a unity event. It will take place on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 9 a.m.
It will also commemorate the 125th anniversary of the 1900 storm that left thousands of island residents dead.
The seawall was built not long after the storm to help protect the people of Galveston from hurricanes and tropical storms.
