Crater Lake National Park will close its Cleetwood Cove Trail—the only legal public access to the lake’s shoreline—after summer 2025 for a four-year renovation. The steep, one-mile trail will reopen in 2029 after safety upgrades to the path, restrooms, and boat dock. Known for its deep blue water and clarity, Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the U.S. and a geological wonder formed by a volcanic collapse over 7,000 years ago. Visitors have one final summer to hike the trail, see the famous “Old Man of the Lake” log, and experience the mysteries of this unique landmark before the long closure.
