KINGSTON, Tenn. (WVLT) - Two decades ago, a shooting happened in East Tennessee that made an impact across the country. It resulted in the death of one Roane County officer.

Now, the county is honoring him on the anniversary of his death.

“We don’t want to forget anybody that has fallen in the line of duty, and and it’s important to us and important to me to make sure that we remember the fallen officers,” Roane County Chief Deputy Tim Phillips said.

The shooting was recognized across the country and sparked a push for more safety procedures at courthouses.
