SOUTH HAVEN, MI – Thousands of visitors transformed South Haven’s downtown and waterfront into a bustling celebration of everything blueberry on a steamy hot Saturday, Aug. 9, for the annual National Blueberry Festival .

The four-day event, from Thursday, Aug. 7 to Sunday, Aug. 10, attracts more than 100,000 visitors every year to the “Blueberry Capital of the World,” according to Brianne Hooper, the festival’s board president. It runs until 10 p.m. on Saturday and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The festival is one of the nation’s oldest and longest continually running fruit festivals, Hooper wrote in an email to MLive, starting more than 60 years ago with a recipe competition.
