The proposed expansion of the Buffalo Metro Rail system seeks to extend high-quality transit service from University Station through Amherst and Tonawanda, ultimately connecting to the University at Buffalo (UB) North Campus and the I-990. This ambitious project has been discussed since the late 1970s and is now gaining momentum with community engagement and planning efforts.

What makes more sense is the expansion from downtown to Central Terminal then on to the airport in Cheektowaga. Central Terminal could become the hub it was destined to be housing the NFTA headquarters, bus terminal, taxi service and car rentals.
