NORTH PLAINS Ore. (KPTV) - A train derailment on Saturday partially blocked access to the Elephant Garlic Festival in North Plains.
Shortly before 12:30 p.m., a Portland & Western Railroad (PNWR) train derailed along the tracks near Main Street, just south of Northwest Hillcrest Street, according to authorities and a PNWR spokesperson.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) said several train cars slid sideways, striking a parked train car.
According to a PNWR spokesperson, six cars were derailed. Two were carrying grain and four were empty.
WCSO said a hazmat team responded to the scene out of precaution, but there were no fluid leaks.
The derailment blocked major roads, including Glencoe and Main Street, making Gordon Road the only access point to the city’s Elephant Garlic F
