UPDATE: An outdoor learning-based public charter school is joining several local residents in their efforts to stop the development of an asphalt plant in Soddy Daisy.
The zoning area for the potential plant is less than a mile from Ivy Academy, and the school says if built, it will threaten the children's health, the community's quality of life, and one of Tennessee's newest state parks.
"Our Mission at Risk - We teach environmental stewardship," the school stated in a Facebook post . "This plant would undermine those values.
The tuition-free school also cites health concerns, as they say plants can release pollutants and odors that can cause respiratory problems and headaches.
