A low-pressure system near Africa is likely to become the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season's fifth named storm.

National Hurricane Center forecasters said at 8:35 a.m. that a well-defined system between Cabo Verde and Africa's west coast could form into a tropical depression or storm by Monday. If it doesn't form by then, forecasters said it's expected to develop more later this week as it moves through environmental conditions that are likely to fuel strengthening.

The system, which was producing maximum wind speeds of 35 mph as of Sunday morning, is expected to bring gusty winds and heavy rainfall to Cabo Verde through Monday as it moves west-northwest at 15 to 20 mph. As of Sunday morning, the system had a 40% chance of forming in the next two days and an 80% chance in the next week.
