OCOEE, Fla. (WFLA) — An Ocoee Police Department officer shot the driver of a vehicle near a Publix on Sunday while responding to a call about a stolen vehicle.

Officers with the Ocoee Police Department said they responded to the area of 301 West Road in search of a stolen vehicle, which they spotted in the shopping plaza parking lot.

According to NBC affiliate WESH, in an attempt to escape, the driver of the vehicle drove straight toward the officers, striking one of them.

Police told reporters that this led an officer to draw their weapon and fire at the vehicle’s driver. The driver was taken to a nearby AdventHealth hospital, where they were listed in critical condition.
