Dozens of Portland police officers flooded the area near Southeast Division Street and Southeast 170th Avenue Sunday night during a standoff with a man barricaded inside a home.

Police responded to a welfare check in the area around 6:30 p.m., according to a news release, then spent several hours negotiating with a man they believed was “likely armed,” who was refusing to leave a home. The Portland Police Bureau’s tactical response and crisis negotiation teams were on site, the agency said, and officers closed a section of Division Street during the confrontation.

The man left the house just before 9 p.m., police said, and was taken to a hospital for medical attention.
