EUGENE, Ore. – Aug. 10 marks the beginning of an extreme heat watch that will be in effect until 10 p.m. Aug. 12. Local non-profits and cooling centers are gearing up.
Five days out of the week, local-non-profit "RAVEN" (Radical Assistance for Vulnerable Eugene Neighbors) distributes food and supplies to the homeless at First Christian Church in Downtown Eugene; but on Aug. 10, they gave out extra water supplies because of the heat watch.
Organizers from the group "RAVEN" already distribute food and supplies from 12-4 p.m. on Sundays, so it wasn't too much of an adjustment for volunteers to prepare for the heat.
