COLUMBIA, S.C. — Cool weather will linger a bit longer, but a gradual warm-up is on the way. Highs are expected to return to near normal by the end of the week. By the middle to late week, a more typical summertime pattern will set in, bringing scattered afternoon showers and storms.

Today’s setup features deep moisture, onshore winds, and a weak surface trough. A combination that will fuel widespread showers, especially in the afternoon and evening. A touch more instability compared to yesterday means thunderstorms will be slightly more likely, and some could produce locally heavy downpours.
