NEW YORK (PIX11) – A hurricane might form in the Atlantic Ocean by the end of this week, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm, which would be named Hurricane Erin, has a 90% chance of becoming a cyclone within the next seven days.

The National Weather Service said the system has a 70% chance of becoming a tropical depression by Tuesday, with heavy rain and gusty winds expected in Cabo Verde.

If the storm doesn’t become a tropical depression by Tuesday, it’s set to turn into one or a tropical storm by the end of the week, according to the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service said the storm is moving westward at a rate of 15 to 20 mph, sweeping across the eastern and central Atlantic Ocean.
