The Turkish government reported that the 6,1 magnitude earthquake that struck Sunday in the Sindirgi district of Balıkesir province, Marmara region, left one person dead and 52 others injured, as well as damage to several structures.

According to the update released Monday, the person who died was an 81-year-old man who was buried in one of the buildings that collapsed during the earthquake. He was rescued from the rubble but later died in the hospital.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya told reporters that one of the buildings in the center of the Sindirgi district collapsed, and four people were rescued by emergency teams, "but unfortunately, an 81-year-old man lost his life immediately after being rescued, despite all efforts.
