BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — One sample from one pool of mosquitoes has tested positive for West Nile Virus .
The Monroe County Health Department confirmed this Monday, Aug. 11, and said that the sample was collected by the department as part of its Mosquito Surveillance Program.
Officials noted that up to 100 mosquitoes are collected per pool.
"Mosquitoes are most active at dawn and dusk," said Michael Kuzemka, environmental health director. "Any size container holding water, even the size of a bottle cap, could be a breeding area for mosquitoes on your property. Keeping yards mowed will help reduce the mosquito population."
This comes after Indiana's first human case of West Nile Virus in 2025 was reported in Vanderburgh County , and a mosquito group in Delaware County tested positive.
