KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — West Nile Virus has been detected in mosquitoes in Knox County, according to the Knox County Health Department.
The State of Indiana notified the health department after entomologists tested and detected the virus in Knox County mosquitoes.
"To find the virus in Knox County is not unusual, but this year the State officials say the virus seems to be somewhat more widespread and is being detected earlier than usual," according to the Knox County Health Department.
Even though the virus has been more widespread this year, the Knox County Health Officer, Dr. Alan Stewart, said he is "not aware of any cases of West Nile Virus in humans occurring in Knox County in the past."
