FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Boys and Girls Clubs of Fort Wayne is weighing in after Mayor Sharon Tucker unveiled her youth violence prevention plan last week - a plan she calls a “proactive” step toward making the city safer.
The three-tier initiative includes microgrants for community organizations, a police department liaison to help connect officers with teens, and expanded conversations with youth through the mayor’s Young Adult Council.
Leaders at the Boys and Girls Clubs say they welcome the approach and see potential for it to complement the work they’re already doing with youth.
“It’s a step in the right direction, really it boils down to its a challenge of being a sustainability issue, but here at the Boys and Girls Club, we’re going to find a way. But it will help.” Chris
