CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - August 11 is National Safe Digging Day, and Eversource is reminding everyone about the consequences if you don't think before you dig.

Before you install an inground pool or even dig a hole to put in a new mailbox, Eversource says to call 8-1-1. That message is even more important on National Safe Digging Day, which encourages people to call before they break ground.

Eversource says evacuation work causes damage to underground utility lines every six minutes. Hitting a power or natural gas line doesn't only lead to headaches for households, but it can also cause serious injuries.
