Fort Wayne Community Development has pulled its proposal for the final stretch of the downtown Urban Trail and will redesign it before asking the City Council to reconsider.
The Urban Trail, when complete, will be a multiuse pathway between the sidewalk and the roadway along sections of Superior and Harrison streets and Broadway, the city’s website says. The $1.6 million final stretch of the trail on Superior from Clinton to Lafayette streets has been divisive topic at council meetings this summer.
The proposal was first presented to the council June 24, and it was tabled until July 8 to allow more time to answer funding questions. The council decided to fund the project through general local income taxes and refund the cost with Riverfront local income taxes and the local tax increment
