Whitecourt RCMP were conducting a curfew check on August 7 when an officer observed possible contraband tobacco at a residence in the town.

Further investigation, assisted by the General Investigation Section of the Whitecourt RCMP detachment, confirmed the contraband and revealed another person involved.

Search warrants were executed on August 9, resulting in a total of 27 master cases being recovered, totaling over 270,000 cigarettes with an estimated value of over $67,000.
