OMAHA, Neb. —
Omaha Metro Transit will begin offering rides Wednesday on its new microtransit system, Metro Flex, expanding public transportation access outside of its bus routes.
The program relies on 18 shuttle vans that can carry up to five passengers at a time, and includes six wheelchair-accessible vans. The shuttles will offer shared rides around three zones in Omaha to help expand available public transportation currently offered.
"We'd have a lot of people that had come to Metro and said, 'Hey, I don't have any service," Curt Simon, Metro Transit Board chairman, said. "People that can't seem to get to the bus. So, it just seemed like the time was right and just a good way to adjunct the rest of our services that we offer."
Any Omaha rider can call for a ride using Metro Flex in
