Former Ohio U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown is planning a run for the Senate again in a challenge to Sen. Jon Husted, according to reports first from Cleveland.com.

Brown left Congress in December , saying, "I promise it's not the last time you'll hear from me."

Democrats are hoping this midterm election will be a time to gain seats in the Senate. Brown lost his seat in 2024 to Sen. Bernie Moreno in one of the most expensive Senate races ever.

Robert Alexander, a political science professor at Bowling Green State University, said Brown could be a pivotal Democratic candidate during the midterms.

"They want to fight hard to try and win back the Senate in the midterm election and a key feature of that would be to put Ohio in play," Alexander said.
