MUSKEGON, MI - Marijuana businesses in Muskegon that have approved drive-thrus may now stay open for business until 2 a.m.

The Muskegon City Commission unanimously approved the zoning ordinance change during its Tuesday meeting.

Commissioner Willie German was absent Tuesday. The commission approved the change in a first of two votes last month and, at that time, German voted in approval.

Commissioner Jay Kilgo said the change aligns marijuana sales with alcohol sales, after Commissioner Destinee Keener raised a concern about customers driving impaired after shopping at the dispensaries.

“A liquor store owner can’t help who may consume their product and get behind the wheel of a vehicle - it’s the same for the use of your products that you sell at your facility,” Kilgo said to Janet T
