This is the first in a two-day series about 'Brady letters' — documents filed by prosecutors' offices when law enforcement officers' actions have met a standard that could cause their testimony in court to be challenged by defense attorneys.

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — One of First Judicial District Attorney Steve Finney's policies is under scrutiny after criticisms from Washington County Sheriff Keith Sexton — but Finney said his approach to the issue of law officers' courtroom credibility is legally sound.

The issue revolves around so-called "Brady letters." Those come into play when an officer has committed some act that could cause the legitimacy of their testimony in court cases to be challenged by defense attorneys. Prosecutors are required to provide them to the defense in cases
