In Eagle River, investigators are turning to drone footage to determine the cause of a deadly house fire.

The Anchorage Fire Department responded Monday afternoon to a home ablaze in the Roseberry Park area of Eagle River.

At least three people were inside when the fire started. One occupant managed to escape and called 9-1-1, while a second person crawled out a window to get away from the flames. Tragically, a third person did not survive the fire.

Investigators also revealed the home had only one smoke detector — and it was broken at the time of the fire, possibly impacting early warning and escape.

Officials continue to investigate the cause and urge residents to ensure their smoke detectors are working properly.
