LINCOLN, Neb. —
As many in the budding class of 2038 walked in for their first day of school on Tuesday, a team of state leaders and educators hunkered down to discuss their future.
"Never, never give up on a kid," Gov. Jim Pillen said to a newly established commission. "Our kids are a future. We can't let one be left behind."
The School Financing Review Commission also discussed the future of tax bills.
"The elephant in the room is property taxes," Nebraska Commissioner of Education Brian Maher said. "How do we address that?"
