BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — Xp Lee won Tuesday's DFL primary and will now face Republican Ruth Bittner in a special election in September to fill the seat previously held by Rep. Melissa Hortman.
Lee, a former Brooklyn Park City Council member, defeated current council member Christian Eriksen and Hennepin County prosecutor Erickson Saxe with nearly 60% of the votes. Bittner, a real estate agent, was the lone Republican candidate. The special election will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16.
District 34B encompasses parts of Brooklyn Park and Champlin in Hennepin County, and part of Coon Rapids in Anoka County. The district regularly votes blue, and the outcome of the race will determine whether Democrats continue power sharing in the Minnesota House, or if Bitner wins, the GOP will have a one-seat a
