CLYDE, Ohio — The pilot of a biplane that crashed at the Sandusky County Regional Airport late Tuesday afternoon was not injured in the incident, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The 78-year-old man from Fremont was landing the 2021 Hatz Bantam biplane on the airport's southern runway around 5:30 p.m. when "his right front landing gear collapsed," OSHP said in a press release.
"No fuel or hazardous material was spilled from the plane," the press release added.
The crash is under investigation by federal and state authorities. Impairment is not a factor, according to OSHP.
The pilot was wearing his seatbelt and eye goggles at the time of the crash.
The airport is about halfway between Clyde and Fremont in the southern end of Sandusky County, just east of state Route 19.
