MASON, Tenn. (WMC) - The Town of Mason held a vote Tuesday night on two contracts that would decide whether or not to re-open a closed detention facility as an ICE detention center 30 miles from Memphis.
The town’s attorney says the project has been approved after leaders passed the town’s final contracts with CoreCivic and ICE.
The Town of Mason’s recorder originally reported that the contract with ICE failed, but the town’s attorney says the votes for those who abstained were mistakenly counted.
According to the recorder, the Mason Board of Aldermen decided to approve the final contract with CoreCivic in a 4-3-1 vote. But the town attorney says the vote was 4-1-2.
