MID-HUDSON – During certain times of day, particularly on weekends, New York Route 17 in Orange and Sullivan counties, dubbed the Quickway, can often be renamed the ‘Slow-way” because of the traffic on the divided highway with two lanes each way eastbound and westbound.

The State Department of Transportation has been conducting studies and mapping out alternatives to add a third lane each way, and now, a new study by Colliers Engineering and Design has confirmed that. The new study was commissioned by the group 17-Forward-86 as the road will eventually change hands from a state to federal highway.
