BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KFSN) -- It's the end of an era for country music in Bakersfield.

This week, the family of honkytonk legend Buck Owens announced the iconic "Crystal Palace" has closed after three decades.

The venue opened in October 1996 and played host to countless country music stars and artists from across the Central Valley.

The Crystal Palace is also the place where country music superstar Garth Brooks proposed to his now-wife, Trisha Yearwood. Brooks also performed there in 2019.

The Crystal Palace seated more than 500 people.

Managers cited a challenging business climate, along with the wishes of the Buck Owens' family to step back from their responsibilities as the reason for the closure of the long-time Bakersfield business.
