MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) - For the third year in a row, Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells honored the Safety Patrols at Rowlett Elementary Academy.

These Safety Patrols are fifth graders from the school, chosen for the role based on their proven leadership and responsibility.

“I’m so proud of these kids,” said Rowlett Elementary Academy Principal, Cathy Choate.

Each day, the 50 children help students safely exit their parents vehicles in the car loop and find the correct car at pick up time.

They also patrol the bus loop, along with the hallways and the cafeteria.

On Wednesday morning, Sheriff Wells ‘pinned’ each safety patrol for their service and dedication, much like how an officer or a deputy has a ‘pinning’ ceremony when they’re sworn into service.
