FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Fort Wayne Police Department officers were able to talk a man experiencing a mental health crisis down from a West State Boulevard bridge on Wednesday.

A passing motorist called police to report seeing the man sitting on the railing of a pedestrian bridge. Responding officers determined he was experiencing a mental health crisis.

A FWPD Crisis Response Team negotiator, along with members of the Fort Wayne Fire Department and Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, also came to the scene. The negotiator was able to talk with the man and get him to come down from the bridge.

The man has been transported for a mental health evaluation.

West State Boulevard was closed during the incident but is no open.
